During a poignant event at Kigali Serena Hotel, the wife of Ondo State Governor and founder of Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), Mrs. Akeredolu, called on breast cancer survivors across Africa to share their experiences and raise awareness in their communities. Having battled breast cancer herself 22 years ago, Mrs. Akeredolu knows the isolation and stigma survivors faced back then. Inspired by her own journey, she established BRECAN to drive public education, advocacy, patient support, and research to combat breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Acknowledging the transformative work of Philippa Kibugu-Decuir, founder of Breast Cancer Initiative of East Africa (BCIEA), Mrs. Akeredolu urged survivors to emulate such actions, fostering advocacy communities to fight breast cancer on the continent. Emphasizing awareness as a crucial step to survival, she encouraged women to regularly perform breast self-examinations (BSE).

BCIEA's remarkable 10th-anniversary celebration was graced by Rwandan government officials, Nigerian High Commissioner to Rwanda, industry leaders, cancer advocates from various African countries, Australia, and the United States of America. The event, featuring cultural displays and auction sales, supported patient care and underscored the significance of empowering voices against breast cancer.
